Action Checklist

Take the campaign against the NHS reforms on to your local streets - to raise awareness and to put as much pressure on the government as possible. Below are some of the ways that you can help to spread the word.

Post flyers and campaign materials in your neighbourhood
Print off a supply of our campaign flyers and post them around your neighbourhood. If you feel like talking to people, then ring or knock before you leave the flyer. Some NHS supporters have already done this and some have also created their own campaign materials and gained press coverage. Try and encourage people to visit this website to find out more and to sign the online petition.

Set up a stall in your local shopping centre or railway station

Again, take a supply of our flyers and petitions and try and engage with as many people as you can. Many people will wave you away but some will stop and talk. If they do, try and get them to pass the message on.

Other things you can do to help:

Distribute our campaign materials at work
Keep emailing links to our website pages to as many people as possible, and, in a more traditional way, feel free to print off pages from the site to copy and circulate. Of particular interest might be the organisational oppositionour practical arguments, the letters to MPs from NHS supportersfuture NHS scenarios, or our full response to the White Paper proposals.

Urge your MP to vote against the bill
Make an appointment to see your MP, armed with either our practical arguments, or some of the organisational opposition. You should be able to find their constituency office contact details on their official websites, using any of the popular search engines. Additionally, write them a letter urging them to vote against the bill. Use our editable template letter as a guide. You can either write a traditional letter to their constituency address or use the site WriteToThem to send an email. You could also read some of the letters from NHS supporters to help you create something more personal.

Write to your local newspaper
The letters page is one of the most read pages of a newspaper, so a good place to try and raise awareness. Again, you can use our editable template letter to help you compose your own.

Get your trade union branch to affiliate
If you're a member of a trade union, encourage your local branch to affiliate to our campaign.

Sign our petition
If you haven't already done so, please sign our petition - and encourage your friends and family to as well.

Donate to our campaign
Setting up a direct debit is particularly helpful as this can help us to plan, research, and coordinate our campaigns more effectively in the longer term. However, one-off donations are also gratefully received and used for more immediate causes in our work to protect the core principles of the NHS.
