Protest against Virgin Healthcare, Manchester
Wednesday 20 February, 6.00-7.30pm. Imperial War Museum, Trafford Wharfe Rd, Manchester (nearest tram stop Broadway
Health workers from Manchester will be protesting outside an attempt by Virgin Healthcare to take over GP practices in Manchester.
Richard Branson's Virgin group is planning to move into primary healthcare and has a series of meetings to discuss their ideas with primary care staff.
UNISON has issued a strong statement: "We are absolutely opposed to the move by Virgin Group into GP surgeries. It is deeply alarming that a private company such as Virgin Group will be marketing its additional services to potentially vulnerable patients when they are in need of medical care as if they were visiting a gym... [We should not] allow health centres to be run by gym managers."

Lobby of Lambeth Primary Care Trust
10am Monday 19 November, 1 Lower Marsh, Lambeth. Bring banners etc.
On 19 November Lambeth Primary Care Trust is meeting to decide on the final stage of the process to completely remove all traces of the Maudsley Emergency Clinic and finally cut the last threads of a lifeline for at risk mental health users. Already there is much evidence that the replacement service is inadequate and that users are falling through the gaps. It is only a matter of time before lives will be lost.
Southwark and Lambeth Keep Our NHS Public and local mental health groups are calling on service users, local groups and NHS staff to lobby this crucial meeting and make clear the support for restoring the Emergency Clinic.
Don't let Lambeth PCT cut the lifeline for Mental Health service users in crisis.

Widespread support for the event will send a strong message to the government that we want to keep it that way.
